Woodland Style Traditional Flutes
My Sylvarian traditional Native American–style flutes are ritualistically crafted from cedar, shaped with intention and respect for the wood’s spirit. Each instrument is concert‑tuned to the minor pentatonic scale, offering a warm, intuitive voice. Unlike the more common Plains‑style flutes — which require the 3rd or 4th hole to remain covered in order to play a clean scale — your woodland‑style layout eliminates that complication entirely. The scale unfolds simply by opening one hole at a time, just like a recorder, making the flute immediately accessible to beginners while preserving the depth and expressiveness valued by experienced players. This hole placement is what defines a Woodland Style flute. The hole positioning comes directly from traditional Ojibwa flutemaking and the teachings of respected makers and elders, carrying forward a lineage of technique and spirit in every flute that I craft.
